On 31st March 2022, IMA organized Season 2 of the Professor for A Day event. The event took place in the lecture gallery of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE), Independent University, Bangladesh. Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO of Mutual Trust Bank Limited (MTB) Was invited as keynote speaker at the event. A man with an admirable personality, he has the ability to inspire people with his immense knowledge and experiences in life.

The event started with the opening speech of the respected Dean of SBE, Prof. Meherun Ahmed. She welcomed and introduced the honorable guest speaker to all the students and faculty members that were present at the event and also recited a beautiful poem to light up the event.
After the wonderful introduction speech, Prof. Meherun Ahmed invited Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, to come onto the stage and take over the floor to continue the main part of the event.
Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman shared his journey from being a student of Geology to becoming the CEO of Mutual Trust Bank with everyone present at the event.

He had given his valuable advice and explained how he always looked at the bigger picture. Instead of working in the center of all transactions in Dhaka, he understood that it was a cluttered market, and he would get a lot to learn if he opted to work in Chittagong. And so, he did. Over the 5 years he worked in Chittagong, he developed key skills in managing people who had different cultural backgrounds. He highlighted the importance of being customer-centric and advised the students to see from the other person’s perspective. He gave the students insights into the challenges he faced while working there and explained how he learned the hard way that people from different cultural backgrounds think differently.

After that began the Q/A session, where initially the questions were asked by Ms. Zaima Ahmed, lecturer at the Department of Finance, SBE. And then one by one, the students present at the event also started asking questions to Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman. To which, his answers were very genuine and helpful. If there is to quote one line from the spectacular answers he gave, that would be, “We always need to make sure that we are at the right place at the right time, but the challenge is to make ourselves available for that”. These are words that have struck many perceptive minds who were present at the gallery at that moment.

There is no doubt that this mentorship session ended with a lot of minds coming out inspired, driven, and with a much clear vision of how to take the small steps toward achieving great success in life.
