Developing Skilled Worker for RMG Sector through Specialized Courses

In order to cater the market need for skilled RMG workers, CRMG has taken the initiative to offer short courses on various critical aspects of RMG (e.g. merchandising). This course will be offered in collaboration with the Centre for Distance Learning, SB, IUB, where the courses will be offered through distance learning mode. As there are many people who work in RMG sector lack the privilege to reside in Dhaka City for higher education and, hence, it is impossible for them to acquire higher education from a reputed institute. Considering this, CRMG, at initial stage, will offer RMG related courses through distance learning mode. However, the center will explore the possibilities in offering full in-campus diploma degree in RMG in IUB as well.

Roundtable Discussion II: GSP Facility and RMG Sector of Bangladesh

Recently the United States has renewed trade preferences for 122 nations around the world, but Bangladesh has been excluded from the list. US President Barack Obama signed the Trade Preferences Extension Act on June 29, authorising the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) through 2017, according to a notice posted by the US Customs and Border Protection. The new GSP programme will make trade benefits retroactive to July 31, 2013. To regain GSP facility, Bangladesh has to meet the conditions stated in the United States Trade Representative (USTR) sponsored 15-point Bangladesh Action Plan 2013. In this circumstance, it is imperative to investigate the overall scenario of GSP status for Bangladesh in RMG sector. Thus the School of Business, IUB is going to take an initiative to organize a round table session on “GSP Facility and RMG Sector of Bangladesh” in November 2015 where eminent personalities from this sector will share their experiences and opinions about this issue. The session may help to shed light on this burning issue of RMG sector of Bangladesh.
