The Independent HR Society of Independent University, Bangladesh hosted a very interactive seminar, on 28 th February, 2017, about “Social empowerment of marginal tea farmer”. Guest speaker was Mr. Dewan Sadek Afzal, Chairman of Green Care Agro Limited & Guest of Honor was Mr. Mosharraf Hossain, Director of Green Care Agro.

The guest speaker shared his valuable knowledge and experience on social entrepreneurship model about small-holding tea cultivation, which is a unique way of alleviating poverty in a sustainable manner, reducing unemployment and encouraging female employment. The model explained by Mr. Dewan Sadek Afzal, is implemented in Tetulia upazila since 2004, can be replicated in greater North Bengal. The Guest of Honor, Mr. Mosharraf Hossain, Director of, Green Care Agro Limited facilitated question/ answer session with the faculty members & students. From the discussion of the seminar it became apparent that small holding tea plantation can be a great way to increase income of farmers by increasing their self-sufficiency and also govt. revenue can rise in the form of VAT, Tea Cess, other Taxes.
