Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a launching ceremony of the book titled, ‘Geopolitics of the South China Sea in the Coming Decades’ written by Prof. Mohd. Aminul Karim, Dean, School of Business, IUB. The ceremony took place on January 29, 2019 at IUB Auditorium in Bashundhara, Dhaka.

Ambassador M. Shahidul Islam, Secretary General, BIMSTEC attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. On the occasion, the notable book was reviewed by Ambassador and former Foreign Secretary Md. Touhid Hossain and Prof. Imtiaz A. Hussain, Head, Global Studies and Governance Program, IUB.  Mr. Towhid Samad, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University and former Chairman BoT, IUB and Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB also spoke in the ceremony. Mr. Samad emphasized on continuing these discussions through various means that will eventually lead creating new thoughts & knowledge for IUB students.  Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IUB delivered formal vote of thanks and also announced that among 140+ public & private universities in Bangladesh, IUB has been ranked as number 1 on Ranking Web of Universities (RWU).

While reviewing, Mr. Touhid Hossain discussed crosscutting issues of geopolitics, transformation of power and democracy. In his review of the book, Prof. Imtiaz A. Hussain mentioned that a transition is underway that is fraught with risks and uncertainty. But now the world has shifted from military power to economics in quest for supremacy.  Ambassador M. Shahidul Islam, thanked the author for publishing such an important and utterly credible book that will help crossways users to create new knowledge.

Prof. M. Omar Rahman appreciated the author for his hard work and also explained how history and geography turned the South China Sea extremely crucial for the present world.

Following the presentation, the floor was open for a question-answer session where both students and faculties participated enthusiastically. Senior members of the faculty and management and a large number of students of IUB attended the Ceremony.
