The International Business Department and the Independent International Business Forum (IIBF) conducted a seminar on ‘Geopolitical Developments in the Middle East and Asia with a Focus on Bangladesh’. The seminar was held on the 6th of February, 2019. The keynote speaker of the seminar was Dr. Kalam Shahed, a senior policy analyst of the Government of Canada.

Dr. Kalam Shahed eloquently narrated some of the crucial geopolitical issues that are impacting the political environment of the Middle East and South Asia with particular emphasis on democracy and religion. And how these two forces are shaping the political landscape of such countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Middle East.

In this context he discussed the different Islamic ideologies of different sects of Islam, especially in the context of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran and how these ideologies comingle or differ in the subjugation and dominance of one group over another, and thus shaping the political environment of these nations.

In addition, he also discussed on the Canadian education system and how the business students of IUB can maximize their chances in getting admission to the top-tiered Canadian universities. He also discussed on the admission procedure, costs and the prospects for employability in Canadian companies after graduating from these universities.

Professor, Heads and other respected faculties of the School of Business attended the seminar. In addition, the Head of the Global Studies and Governance Program, Dr. Imtiaz A. Hussain also attended the event. The Dean of the School of Business, Professor Dr. Aminul Karim, handed a crest to the keynote speaker and commended him for his spectacular keynote speech.
