The School of Business organized a post-budget session on “Prospects and Challenges of the National Budget FY 2018-19: A Review” on 18th July 2018 at the School of Business, IUB campus, Bashundhara. Barrister Nihad Kabir, President, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) was the key speaker of the event. The session was specifically targeted towards the post graduate (MBA) students of the School of Business. The program started with an opening address given by Professor Dr. Mohd. Aminul Karim, Dean, SB, IUB.
During the talk, Ms. Kabir gave a thorough analysis regarding inherent challenges of the 2018-19 budget. She points to the fact that the current budget is a conventional one though the size of the budget is roughly 25% more than the size of the previous FY’s revised budget. Moreover, she also shed light on MCCI’s role as a mediator in communicating needs and aspirations of the business community to the policy makers. Ms. Kabir stressed on increasing industry-academia collaboration to reduce skill gap and enhancement of employability of the future generation.
A Q&A session took place after the seminar where students raised some important issues of the budget. Overall, it was an insightful discussion which would immensely benefit the students. Mr. Naheem Mahtab, Lecturer, SB, conducted the vote of thanks at the end of the session.
