School of Business, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a seminar titled ‘Social Entrepreneurship in Universities: Unleashing its Potentials’ on 7th November 2018, Wednesday in Lecture Gallery 3002. Mr. Syed Mahmudul Huq, Managing Director, Trade Services International and Member, Board of Trustees, IUB presented his keynote address. The address was based on Mr. Huq’s presentation at the AKEPT-WIEF Social Enterprise Forum in Malaysia with focus on the possible role of universities in promoting social entrepreneurship. He also mentioned ways in which the gap between industry and academia in Bangladesh can be reduced and what universities can do to promote employability and entrepreneurship. He concluded by suggesting that in order to enable the universities play their due role in promoting Social Entrepreneurship, there should be strong alliance among the academia, the industry and the Government duly supported by the development partners.
Dr. Shahnaz Karim, Director Society, British Council also spoke at the seminar where she shared experiences of British Council and its Leadership Program, Active Citizens Program and other social action programs all over Bangladesh.
The program started with welcome address given by Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB. Prof. Mohd. Aminul Karim, Dean, School of Business introduced the keynote speaker. Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-VC, IUB, Dr. Mahfuzul Hoque Chowdhury, VC, Chittagong Independent University (CIU), Deans of different schools, Heads of the different departments in the School of Business, faculty members, students and other guests were present. Mr. Tareq Mahbub, Assistant Professor, International Business, School of Business, IUB spoke as a discussant and Ms. Nuzhat Sharmeen, Lecturer, Department of Economics, School of Business, IUB hosted the seminar.
