‘Iftar for Humanity’, an Iftar distribution event amidst the underprivileged ones was hosted and organized by Independent University Bangladesh Social Welfare Club (IUBSWC) on 26th May 2019. Since the formation of the club, IUBSWC has initiated such events regularly. This year the distribution of iftar was divided in two segments: among rickshaw pullers in Bashundhara R/A and IUB staff. The event was funded by IUB students, Lecturers and the transportation company Shuttle.
Last year the club organized 1100 packets of Iftar. It was distributed amongst IUB internal staff, homeless, students from madrasha in Bashundhara R/A, old age home in Mirpur, passersby and rickshawpullers.
IUBSWC was the first club amongst private universities to reach out to the Rohingya Camp back in September 2017 and managed to donate and support them with food and sanitary equipment of around 25 lacs Taka.
The motive of the club is not just to help but also to inspire others to step in when such events are initiated. The club spreads a message that ‘small contributions bring about a big change’. Through such events, the club expects to ignite similar efforts for the under privileged.
